Soggy Dog Pool and the original Soggy Dog

Like most rescue dogs in Fort Collins, R Lo is an amazing pup with a caring mom who would do almost anything to care for her dog.

I met with the adorable R Lo and his mom, Tammy, at Spring Canyon Dog park to learn more about R Lo, his struggle with arthritis, and how Tammy plans to give back to R Lo and the Fort Collins community.

Meet R Lo, the original Soggy Dog!

Soggy Dog Pool R Lo

R Lo is an energetic and well-mannered 5-year-old Jack Heeler/ Pointer mix rescued and adopted right here in Fort Collins from Animal House Rescue and Grooming. R Lo’s best friend is his adopted mom, Tammy Barto. When R Lo was diagnosed with arthritis in March 2011, Tammy set out to find alternative exercise to keep R Lo healthy and active for many years to come.

The best exercise for R Lo’s condition is swimming- an activity R Lo loves just as much as he previously loved his Flyball tournaments. Unfortunately there are few indoor swimming pools for dogs in Northern Colorado, which meant Tammy has to go the extra mile(s) to keep R Lo active year-round- 55 miles from Fort Collins to Broomfield.

Tammy is willing to go the distance for R Lo’s health and happiness, not only making the drive to Broomfield about once-a-month, and more- she’s setting out to bring an indoor dog pool to Fort Collins for R Lo and your dog, too. And just like that, Soggy Dog Pool was born.

The Soggy Dog Pool concept and vision

Soggy Dog Pool plans to offer a 25′ by 45′ above-ground heated pool with “beach” and “dock” entrances for easy dog access. Complimentary towels, dryers, and a self-service dog wash would be available for all soggy dogs.

Just like people pools, Soggy Dog Pool would have themed swim times for shy dogs, senior dogs, puppies, and other dogs with special needs.

Soggy Dog Pool would also have a partially-covered and seasonally-heated outdoor potty area.

The Soggy Dog Pool campaign

Tammy’s dream of dogs a-swimming in a heated indoor pool comes with a hefty price tag. She turned to Community Funded, a local community funding project where the community can finally support ideas they believe in.

The Soggy Dog Pool campaign is a threshold project, meaning donors will be refunded all contributions if the funding goal of $85,000 is not reached by the funding deadline- July 17, 2013.

With just one week left on the Soggy Dog Pool campaign, donors can support this project and help Tammy bring Soggy Dog Pool to Fort Collins. Soggy Dog Pool R Lo runs

It was a genuine pleasure to meet Tammy and R Lo, and to learn more about Tammy’s dream to open an indoor dog pool in Fort Collins. I applaud Tammy for being a great example of caring and responsible pet-ownership, and for bringing her pet-friendly vision to our community.
